Tanabata
Japan ~ July
Tanabata, also known as the "Star Festival", is one of Japan’s most beloved summer festivals. According to legend, the two star-crossed lovers, Orihime and Hikoboshi, are allowed to reunite only once a year on this special day.
During Tanabata, people write their wishes on colorful paper strips called tanzaku and hang them from bamboo branches in the hope that their wishes will come true.
Join this cultural event stream to learn more about the legend, discover how Tanabata is celebrated across Japan, and, if you’d like, have your very own tanzaku made by me!
